Phil Kauffman - Candidate for Montgomery County Board of Education
Phil with his familyI am running for the Board of Education At-Large because I believe we can do better at meeting the needs of every child. Montgomery County Public Schools must meet the needs of every student and prepare them to meet the challenges of the future. I believe in high expectations and rigorous standards at all schools to ensure our children maximize their potential. Critical to the academic success of each student is: recruitment and retention of exceptional principals, teachers, and support professionals; meaningful parental support and involvement; and a safe and secure school environment.

As a 20-year resident of Olney and Silver Spring, I know Montgomery County. As a parent of two recent MCPS graduates, the husband of an MCPS high school teacher, and a long-time PTA activist, I know our school system. It is one of the best in the country. But in order to maintain the quality of the system while addressing the increasingly diverse needs of its students during challenging fiscal times requires leadership, commitment, and experience. I believe that I possess those qualities and I ask for your support.

Phil Endorsed by Washington Post

Dear Friends,

Today, the Washington Post endorsed me in the At-Large race. The Post stated, " ... Olney activist Phil Kauffman is the clear choice over retired engineer Tommy Le. Mr. Kauffman has broad and deep knowledge of the system, having been active in school and community affairs for 13 years. He rightfully speaks with pride of the accomplishments of the system yet is attuned to the frustrations of parents who feel their children are underserved. His fiscal background -- he works at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he provides support to billions of dollars in contracts -- will be key as the board wrestles with what to cut."

The full endorsement can be found here.

I am gratified to receive this endorsement and hope you will consider it when you vote on November 4.

I look forward to serving you on the Board of Education.

Dear Friends,

Today the GAZETTE Newspapers endorsed me in the at-large race. The Gazette stated, "Kauffman, a federal attorney who lives in Olney, is the strongest can didate in the at-large race. His jovial, low-key approach and analytical skills will be put to the test. He will bring a practical decision-making approach and shows no reluctance to grapple with granular issues, such as curriculum reforms, or broader topics such as improving middle school performance. His wife is a county school teacher, affording a welcome perspective."

The full endorsement can be found here.
